Parent Organization in Callawa accessed Livelihood Support from Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)

Philippines have programs against child labor headed by the Department of Labor and Employment to withdraw those children already in the chain of child labor and prevent vulnerable children from entering. To strengthen measures in eliminating child labor, DOLE constructed HELP ME Convergence to bring government services to the barangay level and campaign for a child labor free barangay which eventually results to a child labor free Philippines.

In the year 2015, Barangay Callawa was awarded as a Child Labor Free Barangay (CLFB) whose parents, school heads and barangay officials committed to support the campaign against child labor by not allowing their children to engage in hazardous work and monitor those identified child laborers. They received certificate and plaque of recognition as CLFB and just recently became the priority in DOLE programs and services. DOLE granted rice and corn mill worth 603,300 pesos as a livelihood project fit for the agricultural kind of living of the community. The project had its opening last December 22, 2016 of which DOLE XI representatives released the mill to the community, parents and children most especially. The said project will be managed by the parents’ organizations and the generated income will be used to support child laborers and former child laborers for their education and health needs.

With this, the organization looks forward to the certification of the three other partner barangays as CLFB, not only for the services, but also for the commitment of everyone to fight against the dashing current of hazardous works pulling the children into danger.
